Mission to Dominican Republic

Mission to Dominican Republic

Courts For Kids is hosting a mission trip to the Dominican Republic. Courts For Kids is a non-profit organization that takes students and staff to underdeveloped countries where they can build multi-purpose sports courts to give the kids of the community a safe place to hang out. Courts For Kids has been on hundreds of student trips. In fact, they have been to every continent in the world except Antarctica. The founders of this organization are Derek Nesland and Selene Nesland. Courts for Kids will only take 20 students to the Dominican Republic. There is no deadline for the Dominican Republic trip; participants just have to be one of the first twenty to sign up. The price for each student is $2,000. This cost will pay for your plane ticket, food, and equipment to build the court.

If this trip is successful, Courts for Kids will go on a trip to Costa Rica to build another sports court next Spring for the 2023-2024 school year. Courts For Kids chose the Dominican Republic as their destination for the sports court because they know that the communities in the Dominican Republic are safe and the production of the court will run smoothly. Many students who have been on these trips have learned a lot of great lessons. A great example of this came from Chase Wollam, he said that “you take less things for granted because they have so little in other countries.” Once the courts have been installed, then participants teach the community about the sports and practice with them. At the end of their trip, Courts For Kids hosts one big basketball game with all the locals.
