New Year, New Heart

As 2022 passes and we start a new year a lot of people create New Year’s Resolutions. Goals like working out more, eating healthier, or reading the Bible more. Though a lot of times goals get forgotten about, they are still important for a fresh start in a new year.  Spiritual goals, especially, can put us closer to God in 2023.

Mr. Rounsley, one of King’s Way’s Bible teachers, hopes to read the Bible in a year. He is looking to experience just the joy of reading it. As a Bible teacher you obviously have to know the content inside the Bible to execute it during teaching. You have to know how to respond to students’ questions regarding their faith and the Bible. In Mr. Rounsley’s Spiritual Transformation class they have a similar goal. They hope to read the Bible within 2 years with the help and guidance of Mr. Rounsley.

Mr. Sparks, King’s Way’s High School Pastor, states his goal is to “fully evaluate how much it will cost to say yes.” He doesn’t want to overcommit himself like he has before. He hopes to apply this to his friends, his church, and his work. Another one of his goals is to devote some time in the mornings to prayer.

Nevaeha, one of King’s Way seniors, hopes to have a great rest of her senior year and she also wants to make sure she has a good morning routine. She is very excited about graduating and declares, “I wish it was tomorrow.” A spiritual goal she has is going to church more and possibly reading the Bible more as well.

Ezekiel 11:19 says this: I will give them an undivided heart and put a new spirit in them; I will remove from them their heart of stone and give them a heart of flesh.

This verse relates the importance of a fresh start. It talks about a divided heart of stone and then a new heart of flesh. Mr. Sparks explains that God softens our hearts to be known and closer to God. Growing closer to God this year can be a challenge, but it is a worthy goal for all of us this year at King’s Way.
