Looking Back and Forward with Two Seniors
The transition from high school to college can be very daunting when you are coming out of a high school with only 260 people. However, at least two seniors here at King’s Way feel they are ready to meet this challenge. Jamison Duke and Aiden Sweeney have different future paths, but both think King’s Way leaders helped them prepare for their futures.
Aiden Sweeney has attended King’s Way ever since he was a little kid in the Learning Center. Aiden Sweeney is looking forward to a change of pace in college. He likes the prospect of more independence. Sweeney will be carrying on with some elements of his high school experience, but in a completely different environment attending Fullerton College, “I get to play football, and I am living in LA. I will miss my friends, but at least Will Bump is coming with me.” Sweeney is going to major in sports medicine. He loves sports, and wants to stay around sports for as long as he can.
Jamison Duke has only attended King’s Way for high school. Duke attended Cascade Middle School prior to coming to King’s Way and had to get used to the differences, “there aren’t a lot of people and I was used to having a lot of kids in my school. As far as teaching goes, it is a great school.” He went from only knowing a small percentage of people in his school, to knowing everyone in his high school. He’ll have a much different experience in the fall, attending Grand Canyon University, home of 25,000 on campus students.
Duke said that he is very excited for the college experience, and more specifically meeting new people. He said that he can be more adventurous in college, and “it is kind of like a fresh start.” He is really excited to live in Arizona and happy about the warm weather. Duke will have friends attending with him, but said this did not impact his decision, “Matthew (Belefski) decided after me, and Isaac (Pisarczyk) and I decided around the same time, but it wasn’t like we coordinated it. It worked out, because we are all rooming together.”
“The teachers at King’s Way do a great job of actually bonding, and creating relationships with their students, they aren’t just robots. Specifically, Mr. Roberts, Mr. Sparks, Mr. Blau, and Coach Ty,” said Aiden Sweeney. “Rounsley taught me life lessons as well as Sparks, they helped me get an outlook on more important things in life, and Mr. Roberts is just really funny,” said Jamison Duke. While they’re paths and futures are different, it is clear we all benefit tremendously from the guidance of King’s Way teachers.
