New Semester, New Classes

One of the most looked forward to changes between first and second semester is electives. A few of the single semester electives will change in between first semester and second semester. Three electives being introduced in second semester are; Model United Nations, Career Choices, and Entrepreneurship.

Entrepreneurship is a new elective that is going to be held during 1st period instead of Financial Literacy. In the words of the newsletter, Entrepreneurship aims to “give students the chance to look at small business opportunities within our school.” It also will “Culminate in a project designed to develop a business concept from the ground up.” Senior Alex Fulton, said; “I think we’ll learn the basics on how to work for yourself.”

Career Choices is a new elective that is going to be held during 4th period instead of Global Studies. This class is designed to “Teach students to think outside of the box, discover their passions, realize their own gifts and talents, and use that information to dream about and make plans toward their future career goals.” Senior Gavin Dykes, stated that he “expected to be able to know everything to know about firefighting and how to pursue that career path.”

Model United Nations is a new elective that is going to be held in the 6th period instead of Global Studies. This class “culminates in a Model UN conference where students get to demonstrate the skills they have learned to diplomatically resolve a variety of issues.” Senior Zack Joseph, said that he expected to “have to solve many different kinds of world issues in the class.”

All this to say that there will be a selection of newer electives second semester. While second semester doesn’t begin until January 30th students will have until February 10th to add or drop classes. This gives students an opportunity to get a feel for the classes and decide whether or not the class is for them. While class changes are available they are recommended to be requested sooner rather than later. The newsletter also wants to make clear that even though the school will try its best, not all schedule changes are possible.
