Question: How can I hear God and grow a relationship with Him?

Pastor Paris’ Answer: Read your Bible. The Bible is God’s word, will, and desire for humanity and especially people who call themselves Christians. God tells us everything we need to know in the Bible and knowing it allows us to hear His voice more regularly in the day-to-day. A close second to hearing God and growing in relationship with Him is to find a mentor and be discipled. Talk with someone who is further along in their walk with Jesus than you are and who can teach you how to know God and His voice. It’s also powerful to be known by that person and be able to share your fears, joys, failures, and successes with them.

Mrs. Lafrenz’s Answer: The best way Mrs. Lafrenz can hear God when she’s praying in a quiet place. When she’s in a really quiet place, especially at the beach, she can feel that she can hear the Holy Spirit more clearly. When someone is praying, they can be in a group, but the best way to hear God one on-one is when you’re alone, in a quiet place, with no interruptions. The second way that she loves to hear and connect with God is when she is reading the Bible and listening to worship music. Things that she reads in the Bible always seem to come alive at the right time when she is looking for answers. Worship music is the same and that it allows her to hear God’s truth which speaks to her soul. Her final comment would be you don’t always have to be alone to hear God speak. In fact, it can come from a large group setting like church or a Bible study. If you are looking to hear God speak, He will. Be ready to listen.
